As soon as they hit more than 350k downloads on Google Play, the team that is building the app called Bike Computer sat down and started discussing how far is the development of the new features. They had the cyclists attention, and they wanted to respond positively to their trust.
Bike Computer was published in October last year. Bike Computer was build from an idea to offer safety and convenience for enthusiasts and pro cyclists. Safety was improved with a feature called Keep me Safe that was build after an unfortunate event where the developers who are passionate cyclists as well, almost lost a friend on one of their team tours. He had an accident, fell off the bike and had a mild concussion.
“We got really scared mostly because we tracked back and still couldn’t find him. We had cycling devices and gear with us, but none of it could help us locate him. This is why we sit down and designed Keep me Safe”, says Ivan, Bike Computer’s CEO.
The functionality was later upgraded into a full cycling tracker. The main goal was to give cyclists a unique minimal screen so they can focus on their metrics in real time. From then on things took off. There were hundreds of downloads from US, UK, Colombia and Brazil which was an incentive to translate the app in Spanish and Portuguese.
Currently it is translated in German, Russian and Ukrainian.
They are constantly adding new languages.
“Adding new features is part of the challenge and it has been tremendous fun, mainly because we like to talk to cyclists and through research and discussion to find out what they care about”, says Ivan. Cyclist keeps asking for a darker display for night rides, and they recently added a Dark Theme, detailed analytics for rides and cycling metrics that other apps like Strava are charging for.
We are not competiting with other apps, since Bike Computer syncs with Strava, but in their own words – a mission to allow cyclists to have their own beautiful Bike Computer for a price that is much lower than other alike devices.
“To be honest, I use a variety of cycling devices and trackers. Why carry two or more devices on long rides when you can use only Bike Computer. The phones have excellent sensors now, and they are only improving. I think we can deliver a great app to cyclists and lower the cost along the way”, says Ivan.

Another popular Premium features are the customizable dashboard where cyclists can re-arrange the metrics that are most important to them, and change the interface to a Dark Theme. The Dark Theme is created to save battery life for Android, and it also looks awesome on the iPhone. It is great for day and night rides as well.
“There are ongoing talks with the cycling community about what they need from the bike shops. We sent that feedback to the bike shops, and soon, we can suggest personalized products, which I think is great for every cyclist, no matter if they ride more often or not”, says Maria.
Just 10 months after launching Bike Computer has reached over 350,000 downloads for Android and iOS, with over 100,000 monthly active users who have covered over 6.4 million miles to date.
